Marion Community Schools congratulates two of our art teachers whose work has been selected for a special display in Indianapolis!
As part of the annual Porch Party Kick-Off on May 1 at the Harrison Center, 1505 N. Delaware St., in conjunction with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, McCulloch Junior High art teachers Tashema Davis and Emily Phillippe will be featured in the Harrison Center’s Speck Gallery. Their exhibition is called “Fast and Curious: Driven by Imagination”.
With their distinct yet complementary voices, through this exhibition Davis and Phillippe reimagine the culture of racing through a surreal and humorous lens. Tire tracks twist into patterns, mascots and machines blur together, and the familiar symbols of the Indy 500 take on new, peculiar lives.
Theirs is among six exhibitions opening at at the May 1 event, which runs from 6 to 9 p.m. and also includes:
Open Studio Night, where visitors can engage with all 40+ Harrison Center artists as they open their studio doors to the public. This immersive experience allows patrons to see the artists' work up close and offers a unique chance to ask questions and gain a deeper understanding of their art.
Free Porch Party Kits including yard signs, Indy 500 flags, and a variety of Porching and 500 swag while supplies last.
Performances by Suspended Animation Aerials and the Herron High School Spring Dance Showcase.
Early to Rise, a juried show featuring locally grown Irises presented by the Indiana Day Lily Iris Society, a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of daylilies and irises.
A full list of exhibitions opening at this event is available here.
This event is part of the Harrison Center’s summer First Friday event series. That means these exhibitions will only be available to see in person for one month. After the kick-off event, visitors can take in-person gallery tours at the Harrison Center from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The exhibits will also be viewable online starting on May 2.
