Spring sports are starting up in the next couple of weeks. We are excited for all our students to have an opportunity to participate in athletics!
Academic eligibility:
A reminder for students: Your grades and behavior impact your ability to play sports. With the end of Quarter 3 approaching, you need to pass 70% of your classes to be eligible to play. If you have questions about your grades, please talk to your teachers.
Scheduling notes:
- It is very difficult to do two sports in the spring, because of conflicting schedule demands. If you are considering two sports, please contact MJH Athletic Director Aaron Murray here.
- Athletes who are finishing up their swimming or wrestling season and want to do a spring sport should contact MJH Athletic Director Aaron Murray here or talk to him at school, so arrangements can be made for spring tryouts that allow you to finish your winter season sport.
Baseball (grades 6-8)
Baseball tryouts are from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, March 4, through Wednesday, March 6, at Lincoln Field, weather permitting. There will be transportation provided to Lincoln Field during tryouts. Students should bring appropriate gear and clothing.
Practices after tryouts will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. with no transportation provided.
Softball (grades 6-8)
Softball tryouts are from 4:15 to 6:45 p.m. Monday, March 4, through Thursday, March 7, and noon to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, March 9, at the Marion High School softball field. Transportation will be provided to the field after school Monday through Thursday. Students should bring appropriate gear and clothing.
In event of bad weather, the time and place for tryouts will be as follows: 5:45 to 7:45 p.m. Monday, March 4, through Thursday, March 7, and noon to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, March 9, at the Justice Intermediate School gym.
Track and field (grades 7-8)
Workouts for track and field start Monday, March 4. Workouts will run from 4 to 5:30 p.m. on on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays until spring break. Students should bring appropriate clothes in case the weather is cold. If the weather is too bad to be outside, track practice will take place in the gym.
Boys soccer (grades 5-8)
Boys soccer tryouts are from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Monday, March 11, and Tuesday, March 12, at McCulloch. Weather permitting, the tryouts will be outdoors. In the event of bad weather, the tryouts will be inside. Practices will continue the rest of the week from 4 to 5:30 p.m. for those who make the team.
Girls soccer (grades 5-8)
Girls soccer tryouts are from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, March 4, and Tuesday, March 5, at McCulloch. Weather permitting, the tryouts will be outdoors. In the event of bad weather, the tryouts will be inside. Practices will continue the rest of the week from 4 to 6 p.m. for those who make the team.
