UPDATE: Check out highlights from the torch's journey through Grant County from WIWU-TV:

The Indiana Bicentennial Torch Relay is expected to enter Grant County at about midday today (Wednesday, Sept. 28).

Several torchbearers are Marion High School graduates (and one is a current student)!
  • MHS alum and current Grant County Sheriff Reggie Nevels will carry the torch through Upland at about 12:45 p.m.
  • MHS alum Jim Sutter, entrepreneur and philanthropist (and member of the MHS Hall of Distinction) will carry the torch on Ind. 15 at about 1:30 p.m.
  • Marion High School student Casey Reaves is among the torchbearers (in honor of his grandfather, Larry Goss, an MHS alum killed in the Vietnam War). He will carry the torch on part of the Ind. 15 portion of the route, just after 1:30 p.m. The procession is then set to pass in front of McCulloch Junior High School Junior High School just before 2 p.m., then head into downtown Marion, and then head north into Wabash County. Will you be out to watch this special procession?
  • MHS alum Wayne Seybold, Olympic athlete and former Marion mayor (and member of the MHS Hall of Distinction), will carry the torch in front of McCulloch Junior High School just before 2 p.m.
  • MHS alum Amos Randle, former police chief, will take the torch from Wayne Seybold near the Splash House.
  • MHS alum and current Marion Mayor Jess Alumbaugh will carry the torch in front of the Grant County Courthouse just before 2:30 p.m.
The torch will continue north and exit into Wabash County, to continue its trek across the entire state in honor of the 200th anniversary of the founding of the state of Indiana.

The Grant County Special Education Cooperative invites families to its annual kickoff picnic.

The event is set for 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13, at the Garden House at Matter Park.

Pizza and refreshments will be provided, and you'll also get the chance to talk with families while your child interacts with others. Children can play at the nearby Friendship Corner accessible playground, and the butterfly garden.

Michele Trivedi will join us from Indiana Resource Center for Autism. This year's topic is centered around autism and the way insurance companies handle the approvals of various resources and therapies.

We hope to see you there! If you have questions, please call the Co-Op office at 677-4456, or contact Lisa Graham, MCS Special Services Director, by email at lgraham@marion.k12.in.us. (For more information about the MCS Special Services Department, check out our webpage here.)
