The Grant County Special Education Cooperative invites families to its annual kickoff picnic.

The event is set for 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13, at the Garden House at Matter Park.

Pizza and refreshments will be provided, and you'll also get the chance to talk with families while your child interacts with others. Children can play at the nearby Friendship Corner accessible playground, and the butterfly garden.

Michele Trivedi will join us from Indiana Resource Center for Autism. This year's topic is centered around autism and the way insurance companies handle the approvals of various resources and therapies.

We hope to see you there! If you have questions, please call the Co-Op office at 677-4456, or contact Lisa Graham, MCS Special Services Director, by email at lgraham@marion.k12.in.us. (For more information about the MCS Special Services Department, check out our webpage here.)

News Blog Category - News The Marching Giants are inviting the whole community out to enjoy their full competition show for free this weekend here at the MHS!

MHS has the only competitive marching band in Grant County. You don't want to miss this opportunity to see their full show, "Batter Up," before they begin their competition season next week!

Normally, you would have to travel to another school and pay admission to see this show, or pay admission to an MHS home football game at which the Marching Giants were slated to perform.

But at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, you can see the full show for free right here at MHS's Dick Lootens Stadium! We hope to see you all there!

(In case of severe weather, an altered show may be performed inside. Watch for information on the MHS Bands Twitter and Facebook pages in that situation.)

Marion Community Schools is excited to announce that EVERY student in our school system, preschool through 12th grade, will get FREE breakfast and lunch in the coming school year.

A la carte items may still be available at some schools for additional cost, but the basic breakfast and lunch will be free for all MCS students. That’s a potential savings of about $100 per month for each student and his or her family!

(Preschoolers enrolled in half-day programs get either breakfast (morning classes) or lunch (afternoon classes); those enrolled in our full-day program get both meals.)

The free meals are part of the community eligibility provision of the National School Lunch Program run by the USDA. MCS applied for this provision and has recently been informed that our application has been approved.

This means there is no application process for free or reduced-price meals. There are no special requirements. All Marion Community Schools students are automatically eligible for free meals.

However, those who wish to apply for assistance with textbook costs will need to fill out an application during registration (online or in-person).

Any funds currently in student meal accounts will remain there and may be used for a la carte sales. If you wish to obtain a refund of the balance in your student’s meal account, please email the MCS Food Service Department at tkeenan@marion.k12.in.us or jwarren@marion.k12.in.us. Please include your name, student’s name, current address, and phone number.

If you have further questions, please contact the Food Service Department at 765-662-2546, ext. 112 or 113. For more information regarding the Food Service Department, including menu information and more, click here.
