News Blog Category - News Giant Arts in the Park is a social event you won’t want to miss. At 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, come out and enjoy good company, a beautiful setting (the Gardens at Matter Park), and great entertainment from the Marion Community Schools music programs, along with food for sale to benefit the MHS Bands.


In addition, the Marion High School Alumni Association will again be holding an auction to raise funds for the Giant Dreams Endowment and also direct support of Marion Community Schools. (www.biddingowl.com/mhsalum). There will also be MHS yearbooks from past years for sale the night of the event.

News Blog Category - News Marion High School invites local organizations and businesses to join in an exciting new tradition: the Giants Homecoming Parade!

The theme for this year’s parade is “Home Sweet Homecoming”. The MHS cheerleaders and Student Senate are partnering to bring this great tradition to life, and we hope the community will rally around our students! If you’d like to participate or sponsor, please contact cheer coach Kelly Berry at jkberry1992@gmail.com or call 618-8144 for more information.

The parade will start at the intersection of 26th and Washington streets at 5 p.m., run west on 26th Street to Carey Street, turn north, and end at Dick Lootens Stadium at MHS.

The Splash House parking lots will be the staging area for parade participants.

After the parade, join Giants fans as they tailgate before the big game against Richmond! The Homecoming game starts at 7 p.m. at Dick Lootens Stadium.

Welcome back, Giants! We hope you had a wonderful summer and are excited to get the 2018-19 school year started. If you are new to McCulloch Junior High, we want to welcome you! McCulloch Junior High is an exciting place of learning, making friends, creating memories, having fun and much more! We are so excited that you are joining us.

Our McCulloch team has been working hard preparing their classrooms, the school, and lessons so that you will have the best year yet. We will make GIANT things happen!

Open House / Parent Involvement Committee:

We will have an Open House on Wednesday, Aug. 8, from 4 to 6 p.m. Please come pick up your schedule, meet your teachers, find where your classes are located, and practice your locker combination! Special note: There will be a Parent Involvement Committee table in the cafeteria. Come find out how you can get involved at McCulloch!

First Day: 

Students' first day of school is Aug. 9. This is a Thursday, so doors will open at 8:55 a.m. for breakfast, which is free to all students. Seventh grade students will have breakfast in the cafeteria, and eighth grade students will have breakfast in the art hallway classrooms (Rooms 116, 117, and 118). Staff will be present to assist students.

General times you'll want to take note of:
  • Breakfast starts at 8:40 a.m. Monday through Wednesday, and 8:55 Thursday and Friday.
  • Classes begin at 8:59 Monday through Wednesday and 9:14 on Thursday and Friday.
  • Dismissal is at 3:40 p.m. daily.

News Blog Category - News The start of school year is almost here! 

We are looking forward to a great year at McCulloch Junior High School. We hope all of you are too!

Here's a roundup of some frequently asked questions this time of year: 

When is the first day of school?

The first day of the 2018-19 school year is Thursday, Aug. 9. PLEASE NOTE: Because the first day falls on a Thursday, the school day will start at 8:55 a.m.

(Monday through Friday the day starts at 8:40 a.m. Thursday and Friday, the day starts at 8:55 a.m.)

When can students come in to find their locker, classrooms, etc.?

Students (and their families) are welcome to visit the building during the open hours below, to find their locker and their classrooms, and just generally get ready to be here and engaged once classes start!

Open hours are from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 1-3. We will also have computers and assistance available at this time for those who need to finalize their registration.

We will also have an Open House, which will be a little more structured and will include information presentations and building tours. Open House is from 4 to 6 p.m. Aug. 8

Are uniforms required?

Marion Community Schools does not require uniforms. We do have dress code guidelines. Click here to view them. Each building's principal is responsible for determining the best way to oversee dress code in their building. If you have questions regarding McCulloch dress code, please contact our school office, 674-6917.

What school supplies do students need?

We do not have specific requested supplies for junior high students. In general, writing materials are universally needed for taking notes and completing assignments. Individual classes may require other specific supplies or equipment. Teachers will provide more information as-needed. (School supplies for grades P-6 can be viewed here.)

How much are school fees?

School fees vary depending on what classes your student is taking. A $50 deposit is required at registration time, and the remainder will be billed to you in the fall. How can students get involved in McCulloch athletic teams and extracurricular activities?

Information about activities and teams will be provided to students as available. If you have questions about a specific activity, feel free to talk to office staff, 674-6917.
